|
This page includes prototype information about the ACF 70-ton welded Drop-end Gondola. The ACF 70-ton welded Drop-end Gondola actually has its origins from the Pennsylvania Railroad’s Altoona PA shops. First built in 1948 as class G31, these were the first all-welded gondolas produced by PRR. In 1951, PRR received additional gondolas mimicking the G31 design from outside vendors American Car and Foundry, Pullman Standard, and Greenville. By 1953 PRR had a roster totaling 11,600 welded cars of this body style in the G31/G31A/G31B/G35 classes, serving the “Standard Railroad of the World” in every corner of North America in many customer applications. If you model somewhere in North America, you can use a PRR model from G31B class PRR 371950-373949.
