The Tangent Scale Models PS-2CD 4000 is back and better than ever! The Pullman-Standard PS-2CD 4000 cubic foot covered
hopper was produced between 1962 and 1964, and remained in service
throughout the US, Canada, and Mexico until the early 2000s. One of the most distinctive Pullman
covered hoppers, this common 100-ton car is used in grain, fertilizer, and other
bulk services. Tangent Scale Models is the first manufacturer to offer this unique model in HO Scale plastic! With more than 2,000 prototypes placed into
service, the Tangent Scale Models HO-scale replica is a perfect addition to your
layout or collection. Our NEW RTR product release for May 2010 includes the following nine roadnames:

Burlington Northern (BN) in the traditional “full-scheme” gray paint with large BN logo and lettering - available in 2 road numbers! These Lincoln NE painted cars served BN in various malt, grain, sand, and other bulk commodity services, showing up systemwide as well as offline! Combine these with the other two BN cars noted below!

Burlington Northern (BN) in the “Initial-scheme” gray paint - available in 2 road numbers! These cars, painted in 1990 at the BN Havelock Shops in Lincoln, NE, served BN in various malt, grain, sand, and other bulk commodity services, showing up systemwide as well as offline! Combine these with the other two BN cars noted above!

Chicago Great Western (CGW) in the characteristic gray “original paint” scheme with a beautifully replicated “Lucky Strike” CGW logo, produced by Pullman-Standard in March 1963 and accurately lettered. Tangent now offers six car numbers from the first CGW production series. Our models include the railroad-specific detail of pneumatic outlet gates, as well as the distinctive Pullman-applied “not for cement loading” lettering. We offer six-packs of these former CGW cars, perfect to mimic their service in various grains and sand services during the CGW era as well as the CNW and UP eras. These cars served UP after the CNW acquisition, lasting into the late 1990s in CGW paint, if not later. Order a mix and match 12 pack of cars and save!

Chicago & North Western (CNW) in the characteristic gray carbody color with a industry leading “ball and bar” on the carbody in black and white. Like our offering of 6 CGW cars, our CNW cars are also offered in 6 individual road numbers. Our models include the railroad-specific detail of pneumatic outlet gates. These cars operated throughout the CNW system and points beyond, in various grain and malt services, as well as sand and other minerals. These distinctive looking cars remained in service into the UP era and have been documented by roster shooters into the 2000s. Order a mix and match 6 or 12 pack of cars and save!

Chessie System C&O in the bold “federal yellow” color with industry-leading fonts and “Chessie cat” on the carbody, plus “enchantment blue” trucks and underframe. Our stunning Chessie cars are available in 4 individual road numbers, with 1979 Grand Rapids shops repaint stencils, and feature the railroad-specific detail of pneumatic outlet gates. The prototypes operated throughout the vast Chessie System in this bright paint scheme, and served into the CSX era as well. Rock Island (ROCK) in the “THE ROCK” paint scheme with distinctive black and white “R” logo. Our ROCK replicas from the turbulent 1970s are precisely modeled in the stunning El Reno repaint scheme, and are available in 3 individual road numbers and include the railroad-specific detail of pneumatic outlet gates. The prototypes operated throughout the Rock Island system and were even seen offline.

Frisco (SLSF) in the distinct “original gray” color scheme with the large and distinctive black “SLSF” lettering on the carbody. Our stunning Frisco replicas are precisely modeled in the August 1963 delivery scheme, and are available in 3 individual road numbers and do not include pneumatic outlet gates, exactly matching the prototype. First released in July 2008, our first RTR release of distinctive PS4000s included the following six roadnames (some of which are still available):

Atlantic Coast Line (ACL) in the traditional
1964 as-built “Federal Yellow” paint with large “Atlantic Coast Line” lettering scheme
- and available in 12 road numbers! These cars served in various feed grain services as well as mineral origins from Florida's famed “Bone Valley.” These cars served all of North America. For CSX modelers, these cars are useable in ACL marks as well as CSXT repaints. As usual, Tangent Scale Models offers decal sets and research prints to restencil your models accordingly. Southern Pacific (SP) in the gray “Houston repaint” scheme from the later 1970s! These cars
- available in 12 road numbers - feature the distinctive large “Southern Pacific” centered on the car in black, as well as the bright yellow box with legible “Interior Coated for Edible or Chemical Commodity” lettering. SP cars still operate on UP rails, and Tangent Scale Models offers research prints and decal sets to weather and/or restencil your model to your liking. SP ordered very similar 3920cc hoppers from Pullman-Standard, which are virtually identical to the PS-2CD 4000.

SOLD OUT: Chicago, Burlington, and Quincy (CB&Q) in the characteristic “PPG Carhide Hot Spray Gray” covered hopper color with large “Burlington Route” placard (faithfully reproduced on our model!) and Chinese red “Burlington” and associated lettering. These cars are offered in 12 individual road numbers. These cars operated throughout the CB&Q system and points beyond, and remained in service for Burlington Northern nationwide into the early 1990s, when they were repainted. SOLD OUT: Great Northern (GN) with the characteristic “PPG Carhide Hot Spray Gray” carbody color with large spelled out “Great Northern” and the distinctive “Rocky” herald. These cars are offered in 12 individual road numbers, allowing the modeler to operate them in bulk service. These cars operated throughout the GN system and points beyond, in various grain services, and remained in service for Burlington Northern nationwide into the early 1990s when they were all repainted into BN paint. SOLD OUT: Santa Fe (ATSF) in the classic “as-built” from
1963 with the distinctive Santa Fe “circle-cross” emblem. Our Santa Fe model is available in 12 road numbers to adequately model them in bulk grain and mineral service. The Santa Fe cars remained in service into the BNSF era with their original ATSF reporting marks and paint. These cars saw service all over the USA, Canada, and Mexico, and some were restencilled into SIRX reporting marks and numbers, lasting into the 2000s. For modern modelers, note our decal sets and accompanying research prints to restencil your ATSF car into a SIRX one! These make an excellent one-night modeling project!

- green) repaint scheme. Tangent has selected three car numbers with individual Clinton, Iowa repaint dates on the side
